'Get Enough' Robot Spoon, Dominic Wilcox, 2015

'Challenged by Kellogg to make breakfast more interesting for children as they go back to school. He designed seven inventions over ten weeks. The Robot spoon appears to wake up with every spoonful. The LED row of lights gradually illuminate with ever tip of the spoon as it picks up a new spoonful. Over the course of 4 hours the robot spoon gradually goes back to sleep as it loses energy, letting you know it’s time to boost your energy again.'

This design creates a more enjoyable experience for the user, particularly for young children who are more encouraged to eat breakfast on a school morning. I also think that the ability for the spoon to fall back to sleep after a certain number of hours is an extremely well thought out part of the product as it helps to ensure the health of children through regular eating adding a function to this enjoyable product.

'"The idea came from the fact that I read about Europe wasting 90 million tons of food every year and at the same time producing around 30 million tons of waste from single-use dishes,"'

'Gollackner designed the collection to demonstrate that there are alternatives to throwing away food waste, which is often disposed of in landfills.'

Gollackner has created a solution to two issues in one, thus eliminating the need for further products. This is, therefore, a more sustainable solution as it does not require another production line and further waste will not be made as a result. This only reinforces her aim in making the product and the use of both industrial and personal waste suggests an eventual removal of all waste which would have a great impact on the sustainability of our planet, a great issue currently. The use of colour within this product, once again, makes it more attractive and more likely to be bought due to it's aesthetic appeal.

The 'Hands-Free Lollipop', whilst simple, is a design that hadn't occurred to me before. Marti Guixe's food design takes advantage of what we haven't considered within our current lives. This example, particularly, is something that may seem unnecessary but such products could be useful in aiding people with disabilities, giving people with lack of dexterity in the hands more independence and freedom within their lives. This is just one example of a simple, yet considered design which is what we need in our society to make life more accessible for those in need.

This design displays and stores food in a way that will make it enjoyable for longer whilst also decreasing the production of waste food. The shapes and materials used make this type of fruit bowl both presentable and functional through the compact use of space to make sure all fruit could be stored in an efficient way whilst still being a product that people would be happy to present in their homes. As well as this, this collection also promotes healthy eating which shows how product design can help to combat many issues through one product.
